Tom Beard Memorial Scholarship

The Windber Moose Riders Lodge 349

is pleased to announce the availability of a
Tom Beard Memorial Scholarship


This scholarship which honors the past administrator and friend to many, Tom Beard, will be awarded to a college or technical school bound applicant who has demonstrated exceptional community and volunteer spirit. Tom exemplified these characteristics and we would like to continue his legacy by having an annual scholarship in honor and memory of him.

Eligibility:

Any graduating high school senior who intends to attend a college or technical school
Applicants need not be related to any member of the Moose
Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (If school uses other grading system, student must have C+ or better)
A short essay (500 words) regarding the importance of volunteer and community spirit will need to be submitted.

Applicants will be judged on grades, leadership and community involvement. Deadline for application is June 15, 2012.

Each trip is open to 50 students. Permissions slips must be turned in on time. These trips are open to Juniors and Seniors only. If you have any questions, please see your guidance counselor.

IU-8 Test

Attention 12th Grade Students:

An IU-8 test will be given on February 29th. This test is an approved alternative assessment to meet the PSSA graduation requirement in Reading and Math.

Also, there is a tutoring session scheduled on February 23rd and 27th for Math and the 24th and 28th for Reading.

These tutoring sessions are specifically designed for the IU-8 test.

There is a high success rate of students who have attended these sessions.

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY.

National Federation of the Blind Scholarship

The National Federation of the Blind will be awarding 30 scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $12,000. The NFB of PA will also be offering two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. For more information and to download the scholarship application, please visit www.nfb.org/scholarships.

Lee Auxiliary "Emily Lee Scholarship Program"

Johnstown Housing Authority Scholarship

The Johnstown Housing Authority is offering the Pennsylvania Association of Housing and Redevelopment Agencies (PAHRA) scholarship for $2,000. The deadline is February 17.

Harvey & Katherine Supowitz Educational Scholarship

The Johnstown Salvation Army is now accepting applications for the Harvey & Katherine Supowitz Educational Scholarship. Students awarded the scholarship will be invited to the Johnstown Salvation Army's Annual Civic Dinner in May.

The Scholarship primarily is need-based and will be awarded to students enrolled in or intending to be enrolled in college, university, trade school or other such programs. Weight will be afforded to the applicant's community service including service to or through the Salvation Army.
