On November 15th, JHS will conduct a Financial Aid Night in the Cochran Auditorium starting at 5:30. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend to learn how to make college a reality for your child. Representatives from PHEAA, Trojan College Access and various universities and colleges will be in attendance to answer questions.

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Board Scholarship
Pennsylvania Highlands Community College is now accepting applications for the Board Scholarship.
Criteria:
-Be a high school senior eligible for graduation with a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0 in core academic subjects.
-Be recognized as a good citizen of the high school community by being involved in at least one extra-curricular activity and by demonstrating leadership.
-Complete the admissions process and be admitted to Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.
-Compose an essay of at least 200 words explaining why he or she has chosen to attend Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.
-Complete the 2011-2012 Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
See your guidance counselor for an application.

Civil Service
In an effort to educate and better serve our young citizens, the State Civil Service Commission is pleased to announce a new resource just added to their website. Now available online is a PowerPoint presentation with accompanying audio that describes civil service employment opportunities in a variety of occupational categories and disciplines. This presentation includes a wealth of useful information designed to expose Pennsylvania’s secondary school students to the diversity and depth of employment opportunities available with the Commonwealth.
To access the presentation, follow these easy steps:

• Select the "Job Seekers" tab from the homepage (this is the third option in the silver bar at the top of the page).

All Academies Night
Congressman Critz will host an All Academies Night for current high school sophomores and juniors. This evening is designed for students interested in the possibility of attending any of our military academies. The challenges of entry and the benefits of graduating from such a prestigious institution will be highlighted.

Essay Contest
The Fleet Reserve Association is sponsoring an essay contest. The topic is “What Freedom of Speech means to me.” The grand prize is a $10,000 savings bond, plus 18 national awards and regional and local prizes. Outstanding Young Woman
Applications are now being accepted for this year’s Outstanding Young Woman Scholarship Program. In addition to being a fun filled, learning experience, the Outstanding Young Woman program awards its winner a cash scholarship and over $30,000 in tuition scholarship assistance from various colleges and universities. Any Junior Class girl interested in participating in this year’s Outstanding Young Woman Scholarship Program can pick up an application in the Guidance Office.
